LOCATION:
Beyond
an elegant Travellers Palm, and located directly on the ocean, is Coconut
Grove Beachfront Cottages. Surrounded by mango trees and coconut palms,
we have just three accommodations, thus assuring you a very private
holiday. When we bought our slice of paradise we made a conscious decision
to make sure we kept it just the way we would want it to be if we were
here on vacation. It was important to us that we retain the solitude
and simplicity of the island way of life, which is one reason why we
have no disco and no cable t.v.
What we do have, however, is extraordinary diving and snorkeling, incredible
nature walks, the greatest staff this side of the Pacific and sunrises
that will take your breath away. We at Coconut Grove are devoted to
this island, its people and its traditions. Come see why people say
that Taveuni is one of the most magical places on our earth.
ACCOMMODATION:
Banana
Bure - This is our newest bure and is located right down on
the lower part of the property, closest to the beach. The cottage
has windows all around, with views of the ocean from 3 sides. From
your queen size bed you can see banana trees, hibiscus and watch
the sunrise over the 1st island.
When you return from your swim it is ten steps from the beach up
to the honeymoon shower. After you've enjoyed bathing in privacy
outdoors, (there is nothing like it in the world!) there is a second
door that brings you right into the cottage. Now this is the way
to bathe in the tropics!
At night when you close your eyes you will hear the sound of the
waves on the shore outside your windows. If you like, you can tiptoe
down to the sand for a dip under the stars. Otherwise, the hammock
is a great place to relax and see the clearest night sky you've
ever seen. Ever. From
every window are views of the beach and the garden, with mango trees
and butterfly orchids in abundance outside. Large windows allow
the warm tropical breeze to carry the scent of flowers into your
room.
The Mango Bure has a queen size bed and overhead fan. There
is also a single bed under the front windows on which you can read
your book, and a small fridge nearby for your cold drinks. It is
a spacious room with high ceilings, and the walls are covered in
indigenous reeds that give the room a real island feeling. There
is a large verandah in the front with two oversized chaise lounges.
It is the perfect spot to spend the late afternoon and watch the
colors of the sky change over the ocean as the sun sets.
Our island is famous for the kula birds, which are like small parrots.
And the best seats in the house at sundown are on the verandah of
the Mango Bure. You will see them flitting through the air at sundown,
flying in packs from coconut tree to tree.
From the bathroom you step outdoors to the attached hot water "honeymoon
shower". It was built from lava rocks we found down the island
and has a banana tree cascading over the rock wall. Talk about a
special place to bathe! You haven't lived until you have showered
here, outdoors, in total privacy looking out at the sea.
Papaya Bure - This light and airy bure is cooled by the trade
winds that rustle through the papaya trees outside. It has a queen
size bed, ceiling fan and a little fridge in the corner for your
cold drinks. Its louvered windows provide beautiful views of the
ocean and sunrise from your bed! Outside, on your verandah, there
are heliconias and hibiscus everywhere, and down a few steps is
the outdoor lava rock shower. Of course there is a hot water shower
inside your bure, but this outside one is the perfect place to rinse
off after a swim. It has a cute little half door in the front so
that you can see the ocean from here without frightening the fish. |

HOTEL
FACILITIES & SERVICES:
We love to prepare curries and Fijian food as well, and we also
import some of the finest beef New Zealand has to offer. Dinner
can be served in the restaurant, on your private verandah, or down
on the beach by candlelight.
Many nights we have the guys come play their ukuleles and sing their
sweet island tunes. It is an important part of our effort to show
you as much of the Fijian culture as possible while you are here
with us. We also have village night when the entire village performs
meke (traditional story/dance) on our beach, followed by lovo(food
cooked in an earth oven over volvanic rocks).
Our restaurant is small and intimate, set on the front verandah
of our island home and overlooking the ocean. It is a very special
feeling that we want you to experience.
We can arrange packages with Aquaventure Diving, and daily dives
are available with Dive Taveuni, Garden Island Resort (Aqua-Trek),
and Taveuni Estates Dive as well. We strongly recommend pre-booking
your dives, and if you want a night dive this is the place for it.
What else to do on our island? Taveuni is ideal for the traveller
who wants to experience one of the few places left on earth that
is still pristine and unaffected by the modern world. And Coconut
Grove is right 'in the thick of it all'. |
