WelcomHeritage Fernhills Palace is situated
at Fernhill, Ooty, the Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu. Located in 50 acres of
land with sprawling lawns, beautiful gardens, dense forests, rich and
stunning views overlooking lush green valleys and tea gardens. The palace,
superbly finished with Burmese teak, features a magnificent ballroom
with a high valued ornamental papier-mache ceiling. This has two overlooking
galleries, one veiled with lace curtains for the ladies of the household
and the other for the court orchestra.
The first Fernhills bungalow was built in 1844 by Capt. F. Cotton. It
changed several hands as time went by till mid 1860, when it was temporarily
named Moonesami and served as one of Ooty’s earliest country club hotels.
