of 50 years of service at The Elgin, Darjeeling.

a learning experience for this 'veteran' who hails from Sikkim.
He takes great pride in being ready with a pot full of Darjeeling
tea, even before you realize how much you needed that refreshing
brew.
Like ol' Deora, every burnished card table, every polished brass
plaque has a story to tell. The sense of history is palpable, but
instead of hanging heavy in the air, it adds to the quaintness amidst
the privacy of Heritage buildings of the Elgin Group.

The Elgin has extended its hospitality for over 100 years to the
kinds of people who know the real style of living. The Maharaja
of Cooch Behar held most of his parties at this mansion entertaining
his royal guests in these cozy interiors with oak paneling and floorboards,
Tibetan rugs, tasteful furniture of Burma teak, crackling log fireplaces
and discreet uniformed waiters ready to serve you at all hours.
Meal times bring together all the guests to the Kanchan and Orchid
restaurants. The ambiance is warm. The candle light dinner and the
tunes of your choice from the old grand piano make a perfect sitting.
The Elgin's chefs can win you over with a selection of delicious
local, Indian or Continental cuisine. Add to it, the fresh bread,
cakes and pastries prepared in-house for breakfast. The Elgin special
